On Roosevelt Lake behind the Casino at Roger Williams Park sits the bandstand (John Hutchins Cady, 1915). According to Jordy, this classical revival structure has an “open, colonnaded Ionic rotunda as the climax of a metal-fenced, masonry platform for folding chairs.” J.H. Cady was a graduate a 1902 graduate of Brown University who became a renowned historical preservationist. Host a grandiose event in the Casino, Botanical Center or the Tent Space located minutes away from Downtown Providence and on 427 acres of historic park space. Built in 1896, the Casino at Roger Williams Park stands as a prime example of the importance of historic preservation. The walk will explore some of the history, venues, sculpture, and landscape of the Park and engage participants in a lively discussion: Many parks, like Roger Williams Park, were created over a century ago. Monthly meetings were held on the first Thursday of the month all through the year and annual meetings took place in September at the Casino in Roger Williams Park, and in later years at the auditorium in the Museum or at the Boat House. The Society's seal was adopted in 1932.

Gilbane, Inc. (Gilbane) is a national construction and real estate development company based in Providence, Rhode Island.

Formerly known as William Gilbane and Brother, the company was founded in 1873 by William H. Gilbane and his brother, Thomas. It is a fifth-generation, family-owned business.^[1]^[2]Gilbane Building Company and Gilbane Development Company operate as a subsidiary of Gilbane, Inc.

Operations[edit]

Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island,^[3] the company has 49 office locations worldwide. Landmark projects include the Casino in Roger Williams Park in Providence,^[4] and the President’s House at Brown University.^[5]

Gilbane Inc.’s subsidiary, Gilbane Building Company, has 69 active projects in New York City, including 55 Hudson Yards, Dock 72 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and an Upper East Side condominium as of August 2017.^[6]

Notable projects of Gilbane’s other subsidiary, Gilbane Development Company, include facilities in Campustown for Iowa State University students^[7] and the first “purpose-built” student housing, 257 Thayer, in Providence, RI.^[8]

In 2017 Gilbane Inc. completed a $10-million renovation of its Providence headquarters.^[9]
